Dr. Amir Kalani MD, PhD

Board-Certified Gastroenterologist

Dr. Amir Kalani is a board-certified gastroenterologist based in Fort Collins, Colorado. He completed his gastroenterology training at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where he was selected for the prestigious Specialty Training and Advanced Research (STAR) program. While at UCLA, Dr. Kalani conducted groundbreaking research at the Oppenheimer Center for Neurobiology of Stress and Resilience, a leading institution exploring the intricate connections between the microbiome, immune system, and nervous system, particularly in relation to digestive conditions such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).

Driven by his commitment to patient-centered care, Dr. Kalani founded Biome Gastroenterology & Digestive Health to create a practice where the focus is on the individual patient. His mission is to provide comprehensive, cutting-edge care tailored to each person’s unique needs and goals, ensuring optimal outcomes and overall well-being.

Dr. Kalani combines his deep clinical knowledge with a compassionate approach, taking the time to understand his patients’ experiences and collaborate on effective, sustainable treatment plans.

Outside of his practice, Dr. Kalani enjoys spending time with his wife and four children, exploring the outdoors, and staying engaged in the latest advancements in gastroenterology.

Kara Reynolds, PA-C

Physician Assistant, Gastroenterology

Kara Reynolds, PA-C, has been providing dedicated care to patients in the field of gastroenterology for over 15 years. She is committed to helping individuals improve their digestive health through attentive listening, patient education, and evidence-based medical care.

At Biome Gastroenterology, Kara is known for her calm, compassionate manner and her focus on making each patient feel comfortable and understood. She believes that healthcare is most effective when patients are well-informed and actively involved in their own care. By taking time to explain diagnoses, procedures, and treatment options in clear, straightforward language, Kara helps patients feel more confident and empowered in managing their health.

Kara earned her Master of Physician Assistant Studies from Midwestern University in Glendale, Arizona, where she completed an emphasis in Ethics. This training continues to shape her respectful, patient-centered approach and reinforces her belief that trust and collaboration are essential to high-quality care.

Outside the clinic, Kara enjoys spending time with her family, reading, and pursuing a variety of craft and creative projects.

Dr. Alison Kalani, MD, DABOM

BOARD-CERTIFIED Obesity Medicine & FAMILY MEDICINE PHYSICIAN

Dr. Alison Kalani is a board-certified Family Medicine physician and Diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine (DABOM) with over 10 years of clinical experience helping patients achieve healthier lives through personalized, evidence-based care.

She specializes in medical weight management, metabolic health, and the prevention and treatment of obesity-related chronic diseases. Dr. Kalani understands that weight is influenced by a complex interaction of genetics, hormones, metabolism, lifestyle, and environment. Her approach focuses on identifying and addressing the underlying factors that contribute to weight gain and metabolic dysfunction, allowing patients to achieve sustainable results and improved overall health.

Drawing upon the principles of Lifestyle Medicine, Dr. Kalani incorporates nutrition, physical activity, sleep optimization, stress management, social connection, and healthy behavior change into every treatment plan. She believes that lasting success comes from creating sustainable habits that support long-term health and well-being.

In addition to lifestyle interventions, Dr. Kalani has extensive experience utilizing evidence-based medical weight loss therapies, including FDA-approved anti-obesity medications, GLP-1 receptor agonists, GLP-1/GIP receptor agonists, and other advanced treatment options. She works closely with each patient to develop an individualized plan that aligns with their medical history, goals, and preferences.

Dr. Kalani also has a special interest in metabolic health and the prevention and management of chronic metabolic conditions, including insulin resistance, prediabetes, type 2 diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and steatotic liver disease (fatty liver disease). Chris Harris is a highly skilled and compassionate Nurse Practitioner with a Master of Science in Nursing and over a decade of diverse healthcare experience. His career spans critical care, geriatric medicine, and intensive care unit practice, providing him with a robust foundation in advanced clinical judgment and diagnostic expertise.

Currently, Chris serves as a Nurse Practitioner in assisted living settings, where he brings a patient-centered approach to managing acute and chronic conditions. His proficiency in developing and implementing evidence-based treatment plans ensures that each patient receives the highest standard of individualized care.

At Biome Gastroenterology and Digestive Health, Chris is passionate about improving digestive health outcomes. He is committed to fostering collaboration among multidisciplinary teams and delivering high-quality, compassionate care to diverse patient populations. Sarah Posey

Office Manager

Sarah Posey serves as the office manager for Biome Gastroenterology and Digestive Health. Originally from Springfield, MO, Sarah recently relocated to Fort Collins after her parents moved to the area, drawn by the vibrant and welcoming community.

Sarah holds a bachelor’s degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology from Missouri State University and brings over six years of healthcare experience to her role. Prior to joining Biome Gastroenterology, she worked as a certified inpatient pharmacy technician in a hospital setting and as a certified medical assistant in a busy dermatology clinic.

Outside of work, Sarah enjoys practicing hot yoga, exploring the outdoors, walking her dog, and spending quality time with her boyfriend and family. She is deeply passionate about patient care, striving to enhance health outcomes and improve the overall patient experience. With aspirations of becoming a nurse practitioner, Sarah looks forward to building meaningful relationships and making a lasting impact in the lives of her future patients.

Anika Wetterstrom

Receptionist

Annika Wetterstrom is the welcoming face of Biome Gastroenterology and Digestive Health, where she ensures every patient’s experience is smooth, comfortable, and positive from the moment they walk through the door. She assists with scheduling, patient communication, and daily operations, helping the Biome team deliver attentive, compassionate care.

Originally from Longmont, Colorado, Annika earned her bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Public Health from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. During her time at UNC Charlotte, she was a dedicated student-athlete, competing on the university’s Division I volleyball team for five years.

Before joining Biome Gastroenterology and Digestive Health, Annika worked as a Registered Behavior Technician, providing one-on-one Applied Behavior Analysis therapy to children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. This experience deepened her commitment to supporting others and creating welcoming, inclusive environments where people feel valued and understood.

Outside of work, Annika enjoys hiking, reading, and cooking, and loves spending time with her fiancé and their two furry felines, Alfred and Ozzy.
